Initially trialed in Delhi NCR, Uber Shuttle has been in Kolkata since last year through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal Government. The initiative is now set to expand in Delhi-NCR, following the Delhi Transport Department's granting of an aggregator license under the Delhi Premium Bus Scheme. This move will allow Uber to operate shuttle bus services for regular regional commuters. Commuters will be able to pre-book seats on their preferred routes by selecting the Uber Shuttle option on the Uber app, enhancing convenience and streamlining the daily commute for many.

An official from the Delhi transport department expressed the government's commitment to improving public transport services and diversifying transportation options to facilitate smoother commuting for Delhiites. They are optimistic about Uber utilizing its global experience and technological capabilities to enhance the commuting experience in Delhi. This collaboration is seen as a significant step towards better public transport solutions in the city.

He highlighted the successful pilot program, which demonstrated substantial demand for bus services. Tailored to meet the daily needs of Delhi-NCR's bus commuters, the service focuses on reducing road congestion and environmental impact. By utilizing private bus fleets, the program provides tech-optimized mobility solutions. Passengers can enjoy a seamless travel experience, facilitated by features within the Uber app such as the ability to pre-book seats up to a week in advance and track the live location and route of the bus.

The app also allows passengers to view the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) for buses, providing real-time updates on the bus's location and ensuring a convenient and efficient journey. This tech-driven approach aims to make commuting more predictable and less stressful for passengers, enhancing overall satisfaction with public transport options.

Air-conditioned buses will operate on predefined routes, connecting business districts with residential areas in Delhi. Each shuttle bus, with a capacity of 19 to 50 passengers, will be managed by local fleet partners using Uber's advanced technology. This initiative promises to bring a new level of comfort, reliability, and efficiency to public transportation in Delhi, reflecting a significant improvement in the daily commute for many residents.
