Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of Twitter, has announced that he has hired a new CEO to take over from him on the social media platform. Musk bought the microblogging site for $44 billion last year and has since been serving as its CEO. The announcement of his successor has caused much speculation among tech and media insiders, with Linda Yaccarino, a Comcast NBCUniversal executive, a favorite to take over. While Musk is handing over the reins, he will retain an executive chair and CTO role, overseeing product, software, and sysops. The move comes as Musk seeks to concentrate on his other two companies, Tesla and SpaceX.
Musk has been the subject of much criticism in his role as Twitter CEO, with many suggesting that his attention was being taken away from his other ventures. In December, Twitter users voted in an unscientific poll for Musk to be ousted from his role as CEO. Despite the criticism, Musk has brought significant change to the platform, introducing the Twitter Blue subscription service and firing over 50% of the staff in a surprise layoff.
