  • Elon Musk has hired a new CEO to take over his role at Twitter while he retains an executive chair and CTO role.

  • Linda Yaccarino, a Comcast NBCUniversal executive, is a favorite to take over as Twitter CEO.

  • Musk's legacy at Twitter will be remembered for bringing significant changes to the platform, but his employment decisions have been controversial.

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of Twitter, has announced that he has hired a new CEO to take over from him on the social media platform. Musk bought the microblogging site for $44 billion last year and has since been serving as its CEO. The announcement of his successor has caused much speculation among tech and media insiders, with Linda Yaccarino, a Comcast NBCUniversal executive, a favorite to take over. While Musk is handing over the reins, he will retain an executive chair and CTO role, overseeing product, software, and sysops. The move comes as Musk seeks to concentrate on his other two companies, Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk has been the subject of much criticism in his role as Twitter CEO, with many suggesting that his attention was being taken away from his other ventures. In December, Twitter users voted in an unscientific poll for Musk to be ousted from his role as CEO. Despite the criticism, Musk has brought significant change to the platform, introducing the Twitter Blue subscription service and firing over 50% of the staff in a surprise layoff. The move has caused some controversy, with some staff alleging that Musk has been firing women employees and favoring male employees over them.

The appointment of a female CEO has surprised some commentators, who have highlighted Musk's previous employment decisions. Yaccarino's potential appointment would be a significant move for the platform, with the former Hollywood executive being responsible for all of NBCUniversal's global advertising and partnerships businesses. While Yaccarino has not yet confirmed the news, rumors are rife that she is in talks for the top post.

With Musk set to step aside, there has been much speculation about who might take over from him. Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and top female executives from Musk's other companies, such as SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and Tesla Inc Chair Robyn Denholm, are among those being touted. However, with no official confirmation from Musk or Yaccarino, it remains unclear who will take over as Twitter CEO.

As Musk prepares to step down, his tenure as CEO of Twitter will be remembered for bringing significant changes to the platform. Despite the controversy surrounding his employment decisions and his divided attention, Musk has succeeded in shaking up the platform and making it a more dynamic and interesting space. With a new CEO set to take over in the coming weeks, it remains to be seen what direction Twitter will take under new leadership. However, one thing is for sure: Musk's legacy at Twitter will be felt for many years to come.
