Nandan Nilekani, the visionary behind Aadhaar and chairman of Infosys, recently emphasized India's distinctive approach to artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking at an event organized by People+AI in Bengaluru, Nilekani outlined India's commitment to harnessing AI for the benefit of all citizens rather than engaging in a global race to develop Large Language Models (LLMs). He reiterated India's focus on democratizing technology and providing AI solutions that address the challenges faced by its vast population.
At the heart of Nilekani's message was the idea that AI should not be monopolized by a select few but rather made accessible to everyone. He challenged the notion of waiting for hypothetical advancements, advocating instead for leveraging existing technology to empower India's billion-strong populace. In line with this vision, People+AI unveiled its Open Cloud Compute (OCC) project, aimed at establishing an open network for AI infrastructure.
