MakeMyTrip, a popular travel portal in India, has recently announced a partnership with Microsoft to introduce voice-assisted booking in Indian languages using Generative AI. The new feature will enable a select group of MakeMyTrip users to book flights and hotels using English and Hindi languages initially. However, the company intends to expand this feature to other Indian languages, including Bhojpuri and various southern dialects, shortly.

MakeMyTrip has stated that the new feature aims to make travel planning more accessible to a wider audience by leveraging the power of AI and voice technology. Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder & Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, expressed pride in the introduction of the new feature that overcomes language, literacy, and accessibility barriers. He stated that the new voice-assisted booking feature addresses these issues by using simple visual cues and voice commands in native Indian languages.

The collaboration between MakeMyTrip and Microsoft using Generative AI is expected to change the landscape of travel bookings in the future. The new feature will use Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Cognitive Services to power the new in-platform technology stack. The AI service will have a conversation with the user to determine their travel preferences, then recommend destinations, hotels, activities, and other trip components based on those preferences, as well as help with the booking of the packages.

The service will also provide partners with a summary of hotel reviews that extract unique traveler impressions specific to various groups, such as solo travelers, business travelers, couples, families, and others. The feature has been embedded into the landing page of the platform and has to be activated before use. MakeMyTrip is adopting ChatGPT-like generative AI for this feature.

The new technology stack will converse with the user to offer personalized travel recommendations based on their preferences. It will curate holiday packages based on variable inputs like occasion, budget, activity preferences, time of travel, and more. It will even help book these holiday packages. Currently, the beta version of this integration has been introduced in English and Hindi for flight and hotel customers. The next stage of the voice-assisted booking flow will cover other transport offerings.
