  • Adani Total Gas and Flipkart have signed an MoU to address the environmental impact of e-commerce logistics, with a focus on reducing the sector's daily 8 million shipments.

  • ATGL, a major player in India's energy sector, will support Flipkart's decarbonization by promoting cleaner fuel options such as natural gas and electric vehicles. ATEL, its subsidiary, will deploy EV charging infrastructure nationwide.

  • The collaboration aligns with India's ambitious "Panchamrit" pledge from COP26, emphasizing goals like achieving 500 GW of non-fossil electricity, 50% renewable energy, and net-zero emissions by 2070. The partnership exemplifies a commitment to sustainable practices in India's digital commerce and energy sectors.

In a significant move towards sustainability, Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL) and e-commerce giant Flipkart recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration aims to address the environmental impact of the e-commerce logistics sector, which currently sees over 8 million shipments daily. The strategic partnership is part of India's broader commitment to achieving climate goals outlined during COP26 in 2021.

ATGL, a key player in India's energy and city gas distribution sector, will actively support Flipkart's decarbonization initiatives. This includes transitioning to cleaner fuel alternatives like natural gas and electric vehicles (EVs). Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility Ltd (ATEL), a subsidiary of ATGL, will play a crucial role by deploying electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Flipkart's pan-India supply chain, covering warehouses and logistics locations.

This collaboration comes at a crucial juncture when India is fervently pursuing its ambitious "Panchamrit" pledge, encompassing goals such as achieving 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating 50% of energy from renewables, and reducing emissions by 1 billion metric tonnes by 2030. Additionally, India aims to slash the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% and achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.

Suresh P Manglani, Executive Director and CEO of Adani Total Gas, emphasized the company's commitment to providing clean energy solutions, actively contributing to India's climate action goals. Flipkart's Senior Vice President, Hemant Badri, highlighted the importance of shared vision and collective action in achieving sustainability objectives. He expressed confidence that the collaboration with Adani Total Gas will play a pivotal role in supporting Flipkart's net-zero goals and catalyzing the complete electrification of their logistics fleet.

Flipkart Group, comprising Flipkart, Myntra, Flipkart Wholesale, Flipkart Health+, and Cleartrip, stands as a key player in India's digital commerce landscape. On the other hand, ATGL, co-promoted by the Adani Group and France's TotalEnergies, operates in 33 Geographical Areas (GAs), playing a crucial role in enhancing the share of natural gas in India's energy mix. With this partnership, the two industry leaders are poised to make significant strides in decarbonizing e-commerce logistics, setting an example for sustainable business practices in India.
